The Needles District is located in the south eastern part of the park. Unlike Island in the sky the Needles district is much lower in elevation and its roads and hiking trails are closer to the bottom of the canyon. To gt there head south out of Moab on the 191. About 50 or sixty miles to highway 211. From there it is an easy 20 minute drive to the visitors center.

As with Island in the sky, the Needle District has a limited number of paved roads (in blue) for regular cars and it is well advised that if you do not have a 4 wheel drive car not try the off road adventures. And as always take plenty of water anywhere you go in the southwest deserts.

An adventure into the Needles District is deep into the Canyonlands. You can see Island in the sky far off into the ditance.

It would be very easy to get lost if you are an inexperienced hiker or off roader

Remember first and foremost that you are in the desert and there can be drastic changes in tempurater so be prepared!

It would take many years for a person to completly hike the trails in this park.
