At long last we have got out of the resort and get to see a small slice of the real Jamaica. Today we got out and headed inland for a zip-line and tubing adventure. I purchased a pair of water shoes and was ready to go. I had never been zip-lining before and was looking forward to it. What i did not realize was that there was 5 lines to this course and climbing up to them would be as physically challenging as it was. It took a little doing but I am pleased to say the crippled up Roaddog made with flying colors. The young men taking through it were professional and very efficient in making sure everyone was rigged up properly. |
After completing the zip-line course with some pretty exciting lines it was time to hit the river. For this we got 2 river guides that broke the group up into 2 groups and then tied all the tubes together. From there we just floated down the river for a couple of hours entertained by the back and forth banter of the 2 young men as our guides. All in all for me it was the highlight of the trip. Being out in a jungle again brought back many memories from a much younger day when I used to do it often. I felt like I was home and it was a wonderful feeling. A couple things you should be aware of. Listen close to your river guides because there are several places you need to get your butt up in the air. If not you can expect a few bruises from banging on the rocks and there are a few places where the tied together tubes can hit the rocks along the shore so bruises and scrapes are possible. But that stuff occurs out in the jungle it is not a place for whiners and wimps. |
Along the way there is a spot where they stop for a swing you can take and drop into the water from a pretty good height. Miss Lynn did it and looked like a champ. Maybe we aren't as old and out of it as we think? |

The day in the jungle did us a world of good and it really help salvage our trip. The young men working this place were a delight and show the great attitude of the Jamaican people. Definitely the most physically demanding day I have had in years an it was nothing but good for me. If you ever get a chance to float through the jungle like this take it. It will be an experience you will never forget. This day took so much out of us all we could do was crash when we got back to the resort. Tomorrow is Christmas and we have decided to spend it relaxing and drinking around the pool. Wednesday would be another day we will get out and see some things in this beautiful country. |
